Peter Alan Hall Hobbs, Barrister and Solicitor of Wellington, has been appointed a District Court Judge, Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson announced today.

A webpage launched today will give people accurate information about the common marine and coastal area, Attorney-General Chris Finlayson said today.

“The Government is guaranteeing free public access to the common marine and coastal area and it is important people know that”, Mr Finlayson said. “The webpage provides the facts about the common marine and coastal area and answers many questions people have asked.”

“It will be a valuable resource for anyone who wants to know more about the Bill.”

Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson confirmed today that the Government will meet the reasonable costs of legal services for those families directly affected by the Pike River mine accident, which arise out of the Royal Commission of Inquiry.

"We recognise the importance of the families of the Pike River victims being represented and participating in the Royal Commission of Inquiry, and will move to see that happens," Mr Finlayson said.

Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson today noted the appointment by the Governor-General of three commissioners to the Royal Commission into the Pike River mine tragedy.

The Royal Commission will be chaired by Justice Graham Panckhurst, a sitting High Court judge.

He will be joined by two other commissioners with relevant expertise.

Acting Attorney-General Judith Collins announced that Justice Wilson today resigned as a judge of the Supreme Court.

The resignation takes effect from 5pm, 5 November 2010.
