New High Court Judge appointed

Auckland barrister and solicitor Mark Woolford has been appointed a Judge of the High Court, Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson announced today.

Mark Woolford graduated with a BA and LLB (Hons) from the University of Auckland in 1977. After a year as a law clerk at Russell McVeagh McKenzie Bartleet & Co, he went to Oxford University and obtained a BCL. 

On his return to New Zealand, Mr Woolford joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and was appointed Second Secretary to the New Zealand High Commission in Singapore. In 1985 he was the New Zealand Representative to the Legal Committee of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Mr Woolford became a staff solicitor and then partner at Meredith Connell. He has been a member of both the Serious Fraud Office Panel of Prosecutors and the Auckland District Law Society Panel of Prosecutors.

The new Judge will sit in Auckland, effective 13 September.
