These are special awards. They celebrate not only women who aspire to further themselves through education, but women who already give so much to their families and communities through other, unrecognised ways.

This Labour-led government sees a future where the state performs its role as a facilitator of a strong civil society based on respectful relationships between government and community, voluntary and iwi/Mâori organisations.

Today is a fantastic opportunity for us to acknowledge and thank those who give freely of their own time to contribute to this community.
