I am delighted to launch officially this evening Archives New Zealand’s fourth record keeping standard: the Access Standard.

ARANZ represents a wide spectrum of interests concerned with archives and record keeping.

Legislation establishing National Archives as an independent department was a powerful symbol of the Government's commitment to a new deal for a sector central to the nation's identity and memory, The Minister Responsible for National Artchives, Marian Hobbs, said today.

I move that the Archives, Culture and Heritage Reform Bill now be read for the first time. I intend to move, at the conclusion of this debate, that the Bill be referred to the Government Administration Committee for consideration and report back by 4 September 2000.
