I am incredibly grateful that you could all join me today to launch Te Aorerekura – our country’s first national strategy and action plan to eliminate family violence and sexual violence.

Thank you for inviting me to respond on behalf of Government to the release of these two important reports (Whakamanahia Te Tiriti, Whakahaumarutia te Tangata -Honour the Treaty, Protect the Person and Whakamahia te Tūkino kore Ināianei, ā Muri Ake Nei - Acting Now for a Violence and Abuse Free Future.

I would like to begin by acknowledging the many staff, researchers, and University of Otago alumni who have contributed to the COVID-19 response.

I would like to begin by thanking the New Zealand Sepsis Trust and the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases for hosting this inaugural conference.

I welcome this opportunity to join you today, to reflect on the future of how we trade, do business, and connect, and the role that Indigenous and Tribal peoples can play in building new and innovative solutions for the complexities and challenges of the global trade apparatus.

It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to give the opening address for Alzheimers New Zealand’s 2021 conference.

Te Aratini — The Festival of Indigenous & Tribal Ideas conveys the idea of ‘many converging pathways,’ and acts as a call to ignite new and existing connections between indigenous and tribal peoples, globally.

It is wonderful to be here with you this morning, and I would like to recognise the vital role you play in our judicial system.

Today I will set out our plan for the next steps in our COVID-19 response, including how the country will step into the new traffic light system ahead of Christmas, how Auckland’s boundary will change and what’s coming up next for the other core components in our management of COVID-19 such as community care and our testing and tracing regime.

The Government is taking the next steps needed to better manage used tyres and large batteries, and is inviting New Zealanders to have their say.
