Launch of new industry-good organisation DairyNZ, Newstead

 It is difficult to think of a more positive assignment for my first official transport engagement of the year than to be here at Fairfield Intermediate officially launching slower speed zones for Hamilton’s schools.

Thank you very much for inviting me to join you. I have taken a very close and personal interest in Hamilton’s campaign for 40km zones around schools. In terms of relative transport priorities, “switching on” safety around schools must be right up there at the top of any list.

Good evening and thank you for the opportunity to be involved in the opening of New Zealand’s largest multi-sport event - the 2008 New Zealand Masters Games.

I am very pleased to accept this important report prepared by the Ministry for the Environment.

 Of all the new police stations with which I have been involved, I must say that none has been the subject of more lobbying than the new station for Christchurch South.

Most of that lobbying has been done by my colleague Jim Anderton, who has been a tireless advocate for better police facilities in Sydenham and Christchurch South generally.
