Good evening and welcome to Wellington. I am particularly pleased to be invited to speak tonight, because microbiologists play key roles in the fields of research and development and with the identification and management of infectious diseases.

Thank you inviting me to join you today as Minister for ACC. Injury Prevention is a subject that I am very passionate about.

I note from your conference literature that this meeting has an ambitious range of objectives.

Today’s launch is a positive and encouraging event because it offers fresh hope for Kiwi kids and their families who are living with the reality of a metabolic disorder. The new service will do this in two ways: by providing support and guidance, and, most importantly, by increasing the chances of early diagnosis and treatment.
