Thank you for the invitation to talk with you today. I'm a keen supporter of community boards, so I welcome this opportunity to meet those of you at the coalface of local government.

Local Government New Zealand President Louise Rosson, Vice Presidents Phil Warren and Gordon Blake, conference delegates ¡V It¡¦s a pleasure to be here with you this afternoon.

I see the opportunity to talk today about the role of local authorities in relation to Maori land as a very timely one.
