Good morning.  It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the launch of Connect Smart Week.

Firstly, I would like to acknowledge the contribution made by our sponsors and partners.

By supporting Connect Smart you play a key role in ensuring that New Zealanders the length and breadth of the country are empowered to make themselves and their businesses more secure online.

In addition, we have about 50 partners for the Connect Smart campaign, including government agencies, businesses and non-government organisations or industry bodies.

Good morning. I am pleased to welcome you all to Parliament today for an event that reflects our shared interest in the telecommunications market in New Zealand.

It is no surprise to anyone here this morning that technological advances are expanding markets and increasing demand for data and bandwidth at a dramatic rate. New Zealanders increasingly have expectations of instant and high-quality connectivity wherever they go.

In what seems like the blink of an eye, technology has become an integral part of our day-to-day lives.

Good morning. Thank you, David for your welcome. It is a pleasure to be invited to speak here at your annual conference.

I'd like to begin by acknowledging the Radio Frequency Users Association of New Zealand for organising this event, and for their on-going work in ensuring that key issues affecting spectrum continue to be prominently and actively debated.

I thought it would be useful if I began by giving you some broader context to the Government’s radio spectrum work programme.

I move, that the Telecommunications (Interception Capability and Security) Amendment Bill be now read a first time.

At the appropriate time I intend to move that the Bill be considered by the Law and Order Committee, and that the committee present its final report on or before 20 September 2013.

The telecommunications sector has been rapidly evolving in recent years with the development of faster, smarter and global-reaching technologies, networks and services.

Good afternoon.

It's certainly a pleasure to be invited to speak here at the first NetHui South and I'd like to begin by acknowledging InternetNZ for organising this event, and for their on-going work in ensuring that key issues affecting the development of our digital future continue to be prominently and actively debated.

It's definitely refreshing to see a gathering of this type in the South and focusing on rural and provincial New Zealand.

Good morning. It is my great pleasure to be here with you to officially launch New Zealand’s first Cyber Security Awareness Week.

The week is designed to raise awareness among New Zealanders and small businesses, particularly, of cyber security risks, and the simple steps they can take to protect their personal, financial and business information online.

The internet and e-commerce has become fundamental to the pursuit of commercial, personal, and governmental business.

Chairman Lee and distinguished excellencies, it is a great pleasure to be here today.

I am attending my first Korea Australia New Zealand Broadband Summit, and it is indeed an honour to be able to address this session of the World Information and Communications Summit and the World IT Show 2012.

The theme of this meeting, the New Economy in a Connected World, is particularly appropriate.

It is my great pleasure to be here in Seoul, at the 9th KANZ summit, and during the official year of Friendship between New Zealand and Korea.

Can I begin by acknowledging Chairman Lee and Senator Conroy and saying how much I look forward to working with you on matters of mutual interest.

Good morning.  Thank you, Simon for your warm welcome.  It is a pleasure to be invited to speak here at TelCon 12.

Can I first of all acknowledge all those involved in organising this event.  I believe that this conference creates an excellent platform to discuss the future for New Zealand telecommunications.

I also want to welcome all of the various industry and consumer representatives in the audience and encourage you to make the most of this opportunity to hear from and interact with the policy makers, operators and technical experts here today.

Good morning. It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to speak at this important event highlighting the benefits of bringing faster broadband to New Zealand.

First, can I thank the Commerce Commission for organising this conference, and for the work that has gone into the three demand side issues papers.

I particularly want to acknowledge and thank Dr Ross Patterson for his commitment to the telecommunications industry since 2007, the work that he has done in times of significant change and the even hand he is renowned for.
