The Labour-led Government is addressing skill shortages in the labour market through a number of means.

The new legislative frameworks the Labour-led Government is putting in place will set the standards for immigration.

This whole-of-government strategy provides the means for achieving our desired settlement outcomes for all newcomers to New Zealand.

Aristotle taught us some 2400 years ago that even when laws have been written down, they ought not always remain unaltered. It is 20 years since the present Immigration Act was passed, well and truly time for new legislation to reflect a much-changed world.

From 1 July, all immigration applications from Croatian nationals will be processed through Immigration New Zealand’s London office. Applicants will benefit from faster processing of applications and more certainty around application processing times.

Immigration is a key lever in our quest to transform the New Zealand economy so that all New Zealanders, young and old, will have a prosperous future.

Refugees are a living testimony to how this country has always made a stand on the international stage on matters of humanitarian concern.

We are in the midst of the biggest overhaul of immigration policy and laws for 20 years.
