The Minister of Local Government's First Reading speech for the Local Government Bill 2001.

The Minister of Local Government says responsibility for local authority elected member salary and allowance setting will now pass to the Higher Salaries Commission, under new legislation.

This speech focuses on the background to the introduction of the Local Government Bill 2001.

It's been an interesting year for racing already, and it promises to be even more so as the year progresses.

I'm pleased to be here today to support the "0800 Participate" campaign.
