I proposed this event because I believe we need to celebrate and showcase New Zealand innovation.

I think it’s fair to say that the Ministry of Economic Development was less than impressed when I told them they would have to organise it.

I have a strong interest in the ways that New Zealand can continue to develop an economy which is sustainable.

Being in Government presents many challenges.

When this Government came into office two years ago, we introduced an economic development dimension to government policy.

Thank you for the opportunity to speak.

One of the first calls I received after I became Minister for Economic Development came from a boat builder here in Auckland.

I have been asked to speak on youth employment and youth opportunity.

What I would like to talk about first is New Zealand. Our country, and our future.

Real economic progress needs the creation of new businesses and the application of new technologies. These are the changes that take us forward, that bring fundamental improvements in productivity and wealth.
