Trade Minister Tim Groser today welcomed the second ASEAN-CER Integration Partnership Forum, scheduled to take place in Manila, the Philippines, on 19 May.

“New Zealand and Australia have been working towards a Single Economic Market across the Tasman for over thirty years,” Mr Groser says.

“Southeast Asia has an ambitious timetable to create the ASEAN Economic Community by 2015.

Trade Minister Tim Groser will visit Washington DC this week to deliver a keynote address on food security and meet with his American counterparts.

Mr Groser’s address will focus on food security and trade policy at a conference convened by the Inter-American Development Bank and the International Food & Agricultural Trade Policy Council.

The Government is proposing to replace the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) obligations for importers of goods containing synthetic greenhouse gases with a levy, Minister for Climate Change Issues Tim Groser, announced today.

The proposed change does not include bulk importers of synthetic greenhouse gases who continue to have an obligation for emissions under the ETS.

I’m delighted to be here and to be able to speak to a theme of considerable personal and professional interest to me – namely whether or not Intra-Asia is our trading future.

New Zealand’s Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS) is working well overall, says Climate Change Issues Minister Tim Groser.

Speaking at the opening of a carbon sink forest in Marlborough owned by NZ Carbon Farming, Mr Groser says that the NZ ETS was creating the desired shift towards renewable energy and investment in forestry. There were also early signs that business was factoring the scheme into its longer-term investment decisions.

Minister for Climate Change Issues, Tim Groser, today speaking from Canberra, having attended the Select Council on Climate Change, congratulated the Republic of Korea on passing legislation that establishes a domestic Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).

From 1 January 2015, the South Korean ETS will establish a price on greenhouse gas emissions from its country’s 450 biggest polluters.

Trade Minister Tim Groser will attend a meeting of G20 Trade Ministers in Mexico this week. This will be the first time New Zealand has participated in a ministerial level meeting of the G20. 

Mr Groser said he looked forward to engaging with Ministers of major economies on the international trade agenda. 

“It is significant that New Zealand has been invited to participate in this important group and demonstrates the regard in which this country is held in international trade and economic fora,” Mr Groser said.

Minister for Climate Change Issues, Tim Groser, today welcomed the release of our latest Net Position showing that New Zealand is on track to meet its Kyoto commitments.

“The Net Position forecasts how much our emissions will be above or below our Kyoto Protocol target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels,” Mr Groser said.

The Government today released a consultation document setting out proposed changes to the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme.

“The ETS is the most cost effective and efficient way we can reduce our emissions and do our fair share on the global issue of climate change,” say Climate Change Minister Tim Groser and Primary Industries Ministers David Carter and Nathan Guy.

Tim Groser, Minister Responsible for International Climate Change Negotiations, will travel to Paris today to attend the 29-30 March Ministerial meeting of the OECD Environment Committee, themed “Making Green Growth Deliver”.

The meeting will discuss future priorities for coordinated action that can deliver economic growth in an environmentally sustainable way.

Trade Minister Tim Groser continues his travel from China to Malaysia today to support a business delegation and to discuss trade issues with his Malaysian counterpart.

Trade Minister Tim Groser is pleased to announce the appointment of Vangelis Vitalis as New Zealand’s new Lead Negotiator for the FTA with the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

Vangelis Vitalis is currently New Zealand’s Ambassador to the European Union in Brussels – a role which he will continue to undertake in addition to his new responsibilities. He has an extensive trade background. Vitalis concluded the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand FTA as well as the New Zealand-Malaysia FTA.

Trade Minister Tim Groser will today depart for Switzerland, to attend the 2012 World Economic Forum (WEF) which will be held in Davos from 25-29 January.

The theme of this year’s conference is ‘The Great Transformation: Shaping New Models’. The programme will focus on issues arising from the rebalancing of the global economy.

Mr Groser will also participate in the Informal Gathering of World Economic Leaders.

Trade Minister Tim Groser has led a call at the WTO’s 8th Ministerial Conference in Geneva for urgent action to protect global fish stocks. New Zealand is coordinating a group of countries that includes Argentina, Australia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Norway, Peru and the United States.
