The latest five groups selected for the Māori and Pasifika Trades Training initiative were today announced by Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister Steven Joyce and Associate Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister Tariana Turia.

The joint initiative by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and the Tertiary Education Commission will fund 3,000 places by 2015 to encourage young Māori and Pasifika people to gain qualifications, New Zealand apprenticeships and employment.

The Government today announced the first seven groups selected for the expansion of the Māori and Pasifika Trades Training initiative.

The joint initiative between the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and the Tertiary Education Commission was announced in Budget 2013 and provides $43 million in funding over four years to encourage Māori and Pasifika people aged 18 to 34 to gain qualifications, New Zealand apprenticeships and employment.

Requests for Proposals are being sought for the expansion of the Maori and Pasifika Trades Training Initiative from the current 600 places to 3000 places.

Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister Steven Joyce and Associate Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Tariana Turia are leading the Maori and Pasifika Trades Training Initiative, which supports 18 to 34-year-olds to gain trades qualifications and apprenticeships, with the goal of a level four trade qualification and employment.

A major expansion of Māori and Pasifika Trades Training to 3,000 places as part of Budget 2013 was announced today by Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister Steven Joyce, and Associate Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Tariana Turia. 

There are currently 600 places spread across the existing He Toki ki te Rika and Pasifika Trades schemes, which were set up by the current Government in 2011.
