I want to focus my comments on the issue of financial security.

Good afternoon, and thank you for inviting me to speak with you today.  

Strong families build strong nations and older New Zealanders in particular, have an important part to play in helping to foster that strength.

This Bill improves the protections for vulnerable people in Part 9 (which covers enduring powers of attorney) of the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988.

Thank you for joining us today at the launch of New Zealand's first free nationwide, government-sponsored card dedicated to seniors – the Supergold Card

The Social Security (Entitlement Cards) Amendment Bill is the next step in the process of making the SuperGold Card a reality.

The SuperGold Card, which will offer commerical discounts to seniors as well as facilitating easy access to Government and local authority concessions, entitlements, and services, moved a step closer in Parliament today

Our Labour-led government recognises that Age Concern wants to be involved in discussions with the government over issues and policies for older people.

I'd like to acknowledge your president Lorraine Wilson and thank her for inviting me to speak at your AGM today.

While the government is doing its part in ensuring that government agencies commit to policies that promote positive ageing, the hardest work is already being done by organisations like SeniorNet.

Congratulations to Age Concern for its contribution to what this Government has achieved so far for older people.
