Sport and Recreation Minister Murray McCully has welcomed the announcement that the All Blacks have set a date to play Manu Samoa in Apia in 2015.

“Our shared passion for the game of rugby binds New Zealanders and Pacific people together,” Mr McCully says.

“The All Blacks playing in Apia recognises the importance of Samoa and other Pacific nations to our national side and our national game.

“Our Games team put in an excellent performance. We finished sixth on the table with 45 medals, including,14 gold, 14 silver and 17 bronze,” Mr McCully says.

Sport and Recreation Minister Murray McCully today welcomed the first reading of the Crimes (Match-fixing) Amendment Bill.

The Bill is designed to protect the integrity of New Zealand Sport by making match-fixing a form of deception under section 240 of the Crimes Act – the offence of obtaining a benefit or causing a loss by deception.

“Match-fixing is a growing problem internationally and has been described as the number one threat to the integrity, value and growth of sport,” Mr McCully says.

Sport and Recreation Minister Murray McCully today announced two important steps to prevent match-fixing and protect the reputation of New Zealand sport.

“New Zealand is not immune to the international risks of match-fixing and we are taking pre-emptive steps to protect our well-deserved reputation for playing fair and the integrity of New Zealand sport,” Mr McCully says.
