Good morning and welcome to the 2004 New Zealand Petroleum Conference organised by the Ministry of Economic Development’s Crown Minerals group.Today I am going to talk about why the government believes there has never been a better time for the Petroleum Industry to explore in New Zealand.

The amalgamation of the Waterfront Workers Union and the Seafarers Union last year was a positive move to join two unions with long histories, and means better representation for some 2700 members.

The Maritime Security Bill establishes a maritime security framework to reduce the risk of security incidents.
