There are many happy and proud people here today. And rightly so. As a Minister of the Crown, I too am immensely proud of the New Zealanders who have served their country with such distinction in East Timor.

Thank you for the opportunity to talk to you this morning, to share some of this Government’s vision for New Zealand’s economic future and the work we have done and will be doing to help the country achieve its potential. My particular focus is on immigration policy, but I wish to place that in the context of the government’s Growth and Innovation Framework released in February this year.

Thank you for joining us today to celebrate World Refugee Day.

I was delighted to hear that following on from the success of “IntoNZ”, the new HiQ website has been developed specifically to link highly qualified migrants and New Zealand employers.

Naturally, as Minister of Immigration, I firmly believe that New Zealand is ‘the Right Choice’. However, it is not ‘the Right Choice’ for everyone. That is why I encourage anyone considering migrating to New Zealand to research all of the issues, before the final decision is made.
