Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Minister Christopher Finlayson has welcomed state owned enterprise Landcorp’s decision to provide Ngāti Makino and their neighbouring iwi, a further opportunity to purchase the Wharere Farms near Te Puke.

The Crown has signed a deed of settlement for all outstanding historical Treaty claims with Ngāi Te Rangi and Ngā Pōtiki at Whareroa Marae near Tauranga, Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Christopher Finlayson announced today.

The Crown was represented at the signing by Mr Finlayson. The signing was witnessed by local Member of Parliament Simon Bridges.

Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Minister Christopher Finlayson has encouraged delegates to support the rank-and-file conference remit that the Labour Party’s leadership apologise for passing the Foreshore and Seabed Act while in government under Helen Clark.

“I am glad that almost a decade after passing this shameful piece of legislation, which denied access to the courts to people based on race, the Labour Party is ready to discuss an apology,” Mr Finlayson said.

The House of Representatives sat through extended hours this morning to pass the Te Urewera-Tūhoe  Bill, Ngāti Haua Claims Settlement Bill and Ngāti Koroki Kahukura Claims Settlement Bill through their first readings. The bills have been referred to the Māori Affairs select committee.

The Raukawa Claims Settlement Bill, which will settle the historical Treaty of Waitangi claims of the central North Island iwi, Raukawa, passed its first reading today in extended sitting hours today, and will now be considered by the Māori Affairs Committee.

The House of Representatives sat through extended hours this morning to unanimously pass three bills for the settlement of historical Treaty claims through their first readings.

The Maungaharuru-Tangitu Hapū Claims Settlement Bill will give effect to the settlement of the historical Treaty of Waitangi claims of Maungaharuru-Tangitu Hapū.

The Ngā Punawai o Te Tokotoru Claims Settlement Bill will give effect to settlements reached with Ngāti Rangiwewehi, Ngāti Rangiteaorere, and Tapuika.

The Office of Treaty Settlements is seeking information from the public on their use of parts of the common marine and coastal area (CMCA) on the East Coast, to assist with an enquiry into the existence of customary marine title under the Marine and Coastal Area Act, Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Minister Christopher Finlayson said today.

Today’s signing between the Crown Ngāti Tama ki Te Tau Ihu at Onetahua Marae in Golden Bay marks the final deed of settlement for historical claims in the South Island, Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Minister Christopher Finlayson announced.

“This government is committed to resolving all historical Treaty grievances, and so it is a monumental occasion as we sign the last outstanding deed of settlement for historical claims in the South Island,” Mr Finlayson said.

The Crown has signed a deed of settlement for historical Treaty claims with Ngāti Pukenga at Te Whetū o Te Rangi Marae near Tauranga, Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Christopher Finlayson announced today.

The Crown has welcomed the recommendations of the Waitangi Tribunal for providing redress to historical claims in the Far North, Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Christopher Finlayson announced today.

Far North iwi Ngati Kahu applied to the Tribunal for recommendations as to remedies for the Crown's historical breaches of the Treaty after withdrawing from negotiations in 2011.

The Tribunal has outlined its recommendations for a fair settlement of Ngati Kahu's historical claims.
