Acting Youth Minister Anne Tolley today announced the successful applicants for Youth Fund 2017.

“I’m pleased to announce that 36 projects will share $150,000 of funding available under Youth Fund 2017,” says Mrs Tolley.

Youth Fund is about supporting community initiatives designed and led by young people, either working alone or in partnership with youth organisations.

“Young people made up the panel which assessed applications, making this a completely youth-led initiative,” says Mrs Tolley.

Sixteen councils up and down New Zealand will share $231,400 of funding under the Local Government Youth Project Fund 2017, Acting Youth Minister Anne Tolley announced today.

“This fund supports city, district and regional councils to deliver projects that provide young people with leadership, mentoring and volunteering skills, and help them make a difference in their communities,” says Mrs Tolley.

Nine communities around New Zealand will receive funding of $10,000 each to deliver the Youth in Emergency Services (YES) programme in 2017, Acting Youth Minister Anne Tolley announced today.

“This programme aims to foster an ongoing, sustainable relationship between young people and the volunteer emergency services,” says Mrs Tolley.

“Young people involved get to build their knowledge and skills, and it’s also a boost for communities which can sometimes find it difficult to attract emergency services volunteers.

Around 40 South Island young people and people working in the youth sector are being supported to attend the SingularityU New Zealand Summit, which kicked off in Christchurch yesterday, says Acting Youth Minister Anne Tolley.

Organised by Singularity University, a Silicon Valley based think tank, the three day summit aims to inspire and educate participants in how technology can be harnessed to create change and build a positive future.

Health Minister Jonathan Coleman and Acting Youth Minister Anne Tolley say young people will be recruited to help raise awareness of rheumatic fever amongst their peers.

“Rheumatic fever is a serious but preventable disease. Children and young people from Maori and Pacific communities are the most vulnerable,” Dr Coleman says.

“To further help raise awareness about the disease we’re going to recruit and train around 100 young people, mainly Maori and Pacific aged between 11 and 19 years, to talk about how to prevent rheumatic fever.

The $350,000 Local Government Youth Project Fund is open for applications, Acting Youth Minister Anne Tolley announced today.

“This fund is about supporting local councils to deliver projects that encourage young people to make a difference in their communities,” says Mrs Tolley.

“We want to help councils reach out to young people aged 12 to 24, and offer them more volunteering, mentoring and leadership opportunities.”

The fund can provide one-off amounts to individual councils of between $10,000 and $30,000.
