Māori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell and Science and Innovation Minister Paul Goldsmith have today announced the recipients of the first round for the Ka Hao: Māori Digital Technology Development Fund.

“The first round of funding for Ka Hao will provide a total of $3.6 million for the 20 successful applicants,” says Mr Flavell.

“There are some really exciting initiatives ranging from online te reo tools to environmental monitoring systems which will provide skilled opportunities for whānau.

Science and Innovation Minister Paul Goldsmith and Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell today announced $3.9 million for 32 projects from the 2017 Te Pūnaha Hihiko - Vision Mātauranga Capability Fund.

“The Vision Mātauranga Capability Fund focuses on the development of skilled people and organisations conducting research aligned with the four themes of the Vision Mātauranga policy; indigenous innovation, environmental sustainability, health and social well-being, and exploring indigenous knowledge,” Mr Goldsmith says.

“We are seeking proposals that strengthen connections between Māori and the science and innovation system. This fund will continue to foster a greater understanding of how science and technology can contribute to the aspirations of Māori organisations, for the benefit of New Zealand,” says Mr Goldsmith.

Science and Innovation Minister Steven Joyce and Māori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell today announced that 31 Māori collectives will receive funding from Te Pūnaha Hiringa: Māori Innovation Fund Commercial Advisors Scheme.

Through the scheme, funding of more than $2 million is available to help Māori collectives realise the economic potential of their assets by contracting a commercial advisor to provide professional business advice and mentoring.

“A total of $3.97 million will be invested in 33 new programmes over the next two years,” Mr Joyce says.

Science and Innovation Minister Steven Joyce and Māori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell today announced the third annual investment in the Vision Mātauranga Science Fund, which was established to grow skills and capacity in science and innovation and support outcomes that benefit Māori and New Zealand.

“A total of $1.9 million will be invested in 17 new programmes over the next two years,” Mr Joyce says. “This is in addition to the $2.4 million invested in 2013 and $1.8 million in 2014.
