I've been asked to talk to you today about the government's inquiry into telecommunications. As you will be aware I commissioned that inquiry shortly after the election and it reported back to me earlier last month.

Information Technology Minister Paul Swain is encouraging small to medium sized businesses to make use of the e-commerce guide launched at the government's e-commerce summit.

The government's e-commerce strategy.

Good morning and thanks for the chance to talk to you. It's really pleasing to see so many industry representatives here – I want to spend a few minutes talking about issues relating to your industry.

Minister for Information Technology Paul Swain says the government's E-commerce Summit to be held in Auckland next week is fully booked.

"Tickets have been in hot demand and registrations had to close earlier this week," he said.

Commerce Minister Paul Swain says the government is serious about tackling compliance costs for business.

Compliance costs have been one of the key issues that business has expressed frustration about over many years.

Minister for Information Technology and Communications Paul Swain is heartened by the results of a survey of IT use by business which shows New Zealand leading Australian businesses in Internet use.
