TRANSITIONAL FUNDING FOR CAR PLANT COMMUNITIES

$400,000 has been allocated in the Budget towards providing assistance to Mayoral and community groups working on strategies and plans to assist their communities overcome any difficulties resulting from the closure of the motor vehicle assembly plants, Minister of Commerce, John Luxton announced today.

"I am aware that the closure of the vehicle assembly plants will result in disruption for the communities affected by car plant closures.

Last December I emphasised that I would be happy to listen to any realistic, practical or constructive suggestions on how the Government might assist any affected community in any transition," said Mr Luxton.

Along with the normal social and employment assistance provided by Government agencies, this additional funding will be made available by the Minister of Business Development.
