Temporary Judge of the Employment Court

The Attorney General, Rt Hon Sir Douglas Graham, has announced the appointment of a District Court Judge to sit as a temporary Judge of the Employment Court from June until December 1999, in order to ease the pressure of work on this court.

The Employment Court has one judge based in Wellington, two in Auckland and one in Christchurch and two of them are due to take sabbatical leave this year.

District Court Judge Coral Shaw will receive a temporary warrant to the Employment Court and is due to begin sitting there on 28 June.

Judge Shaw was appointed a District Court Judge in 1992 and currently sits in the Waitakere District Court, As a senior partner in an Auckland law firm she had specialised in employment law, administrative law and immigration law. She is also Patron of the New Zealand Refugee Council and the New Zealand representative of the International Association of Women Judges.
