REANNZ Board Chair announcedResearch, Science and Innovation
Research, Science and Innovation Minister Megan Woods today announced a new appointment to the Board of Research and Education Advanced Network New Zealand Ltd (REANNZ).
Janine Smith has been appointed as Director and Chair.
Janine Smith, of Auckland, is a senior director with experience in publicly-listed, private and Crown-owned companies. She is currently Chair of AsureQuality Limited, Executive director of The Boardroom Practice Ltd, the independent member of Fonterra’s Governance Development Committee, a member of the AUT University Council, President of London Business School Auckland chapter and a director of several private companies.
Some of her previous directorships include Chair of McLarens Young NZ Ltd (now Crawfords), Deputy Chair of Kordia Group and Airways and director of Steel and Tube Holdings, The Warehouse Group, Bank of New Zealand and Kensington Swan Legal. She has also been a member of advisory boards and panels in the tertiary education sector. She has experience as a Chief Executive and has also held senior management roles with Telecom. She was awarded a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in 2015 for services to corporate governance.
REANNZ works to provide leading edge services for New Zealand’s top researchers and educators, who often need access to technology that cannot be provided by commercial networks.
REANNZ is a schedule 4A Crown Company with the purpose of operating an advanced network to promote education, research and innovation for the benefit of New Zealand. REANNZ acts as New Zealand’s NREN manager (National Research and Education Networks) to enable reliable data communications and high-capacity networking needed by research and education communities.
