The Minister for Racing Nathan Guy has announced that applications for the next round of the Racing Safety Development Fund are now open.

“This Fund supports projects that improve facilities and upgrade the safety standards at racecourses,” says Mr Guy.

“All racing clubs and the racing code bodies are invited to submit applications for funding, with $508,826 available in this second round from a total figure of $1 million for 2011/12.

“Racecourse health and safety continues to be an important issue for the industry. This funding will help protect the health and safety of riders, spectators, officials, and animals. It also includes the standard of racecourse facilities and equipment.

“All racing clubs and the racing code bodies should be proactive in dealing with health and safety. The Fund is there to encourage and support their efforts.”

There are around 150 racing clubs racing at nearly 70 racecourses around the country.

The Minister for Racing has written to all racing clubs and the racing code bodies inviting applications to the Fund. Applications must be submitted by 5pm on 31 March 2012.
