NZSO board members reappointed

Donald Best, Marie Brown and Georgia Farmer have been reappointed for second terms to the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra board, Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Christopher Finlayson announced today.

“I am very pleased that these three members have agreed to continue their contribution to the governance of our world class national orchestra,” Mr Finlayson said. “Together they bring a diverse range of skills and experience to the board table”

Donald Best has been reappointed as chair and brings a broad range of commercial governance experience and an excellent understanding of the arts sector to the role. He has held a variety of commercial positions including partner, company secretary, director, and managing director in a range of chartered accounting firms, property, and asset management businesses.

Marie Brown has been involved in music and teaching for over thirty years. Her experience ranges from the teaching of music and French at secondary school level to music directorial appointments, as a choral conductor.

Georgia Farmer has had a long involvement with music and orchestra, including being an Associate Player with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra from 2003 to 2007 and a Contract Performer for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra from 2007 to 2008. She is involved in the financial services industry as a commercial banking executive.

All three were originally appointed in August 2009.
