New District Court JudgeJustice
The Minister of Justice, Hon D.A.M. Graham, today announced the appointment of Auckland Barrister and Solicitor Christopher John McGuire as a District Court Judge.
Judge McGuire will be shown in at the Auckland District Court on 19 December and will sit in Rotorua from February.
Judge McGuire graduated LLB from Auckland University in 1973 and was admitted to the Bar the same year. He has been in sole practice in Auckland since 1988.
Prior to that his career included work as staff solicitor for two Auckland legal firms, three years as Legal Officer for the Ministry of Defence in Singapore and Wellington, nine years as Crown Counsel in Wellington and Auckland and two years with property-based companies.
Judge McGuire is a former member of the Auckland District Law Society's criminal law, commercial law and taxation sub-committees. He has served on the Crown Solicitor's Prosecuting Panel in Wellington, Blenheim, Nelson and Auckland.
He has been a member of the Criminal Legal Aid Panel since 1991, a member of the Court Martial Prosecuting and Defence Panel since 1977 and Territorial legal officer since 1977.
He was a tutor in criminal law at Victoria University in 1978.
