New Coroner in RotoruaJustice
The Minister of Justice, Hon D.A.M. Graham, today announced the appointment of Rotorua Barrister and Solicitor David Samuel Dowthwaite as a Coroner.
Mr Dowthwaite was sworn in at the Rotorua District Court this morning. He replaces Mr Roger Brewster who has retired.
Mr Dowthwaite graduated LLB from Victoria University in 1975. He was admitted to the Bar in 1976.
He began his career with a Wellington law firm before going overseas for two years. He then spent 17 years as a staff solicitor and then partner with a Rotorua law firm specialising in family law, employment and civil litigation.
In 1997, Mr Dowthwaite established a new law firm expanding his area of practise to include commercial and conveyancing work, Maori trusts and incorporations.
He is a member of the Waikato-Bay of Plenty District Law Society's family law committee and Rotorua courts committee. He is the lawyers' representative on the Rotorua Family Court management committee.
He is a past member of the Rotorua District Legal Aid Committee.
