Mr Rodger Fisher has today (16/2) been announced as the new Chairperson of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) by the Minister of Transport, Hon Maurice Williamson.

The CAA undertakes New Zealand's aviation air safety functions including: certification; setting safety standards, monitoring and safety investigation and enforcement.

Mr Fisher is replacing retiring CAA Chairperson Sir Ron Carter who is retiring after six years.

"Mr Fisher is currently Managing Director of the Owens Group and has extensive transport sector experience. He brings to his new role a strong background in business management and transport," the Minister said.

"Mr Fisher will help consolidate the work of the CAA at a time of increasing international and domestic air travel and a greater variety of airline services.

"Sir Ron's retirement marks a significant period of involvement in the civil aviation sector during which time Sir Ron played an important role," Mr Williamson said

Mr Fisher's appointment will be for three years from 1 July 1998.
