MQM (MAF QUALITY MANAGEMENT) MEAT AND FOOD ESTABLISHMENT BOARDS

"The Government's ongoing programme to reduce costs to the primary sector takes another step forward today with the appointment of the MQM Meat and MQM Food Establishment Boards," State Owned Enterprises Minister, Tony Ryall, said today.

"We have been fortunate in finding highly skilled and experienced people who will, I am confident, have the new SOEs up and running by 1 November 1998."

MQM Meat will be chaired by Barney Sandstrum, a Canterbury based business consultant. Mr Sandstrum will be joined by follow South Islander Errol Millar, an industrial relations consultant, Elizabeth Coutts, former Chief Executive with the Carter Holt Harvey group of companies, and Rob Thompson, a Wellington chartered accountant.

MQM Meat will provide front-line meat inspection services and other services to the meat processing industry.

Canterbury woman Sue Suckling will head up MQM Food. Ms Suckling runs a consultancy business and is a Director on the New Zealand Dairy Board. Joining her will be Hester Cooper, who heads up her own marketing and consumer research consultancy firm and is a Director on the Pork Industry Board, James Scotland, an agri-business consultant and former foundation director of Land Corporation and Peter Leeming, the Chairman of Christchurch International Airport.

MQM Food will provide Tb screening and other services to the livestock industry, and quality assurance services for a wide range of food products.
