Minister Announces Nz On Air Appointments

The reappointment of David Beatson as chairman of New Zealand On Air was announced by Communications Minister Maurice Williamson today.

"Mr Beatson brings to the position a combination of high level business and broadcasting knowledge and experience. I'm delighted he will lead the Board of NZ On Air for a further term," said Mr Williamson.

Mr Beatson is also Public Affairs Manager of Air New Zealand Limited and Chairman of the Millennium taskforce.

Business consultant with extensive media experience Trish Stevenson was also reappointed today.

"Ms Stevenson also has a range of complementary skills and experience, on which the board will be able to draw for a further three years.

The Government recently passed legislation to abolish the Public Broadcasting Fee, which currently funds NZ On Air. Thefee will be phased out over the next 12 months, after which NZ On Air will be fully funded from general taxation.

In announcing the reappointments, Mr Williamson reaffirmed the Government's ongoing commitment to public broadcasting,Maori broadcasting, and NZ On Air as a funding agency.
