Electricity Reforms Package
EnergyThe Government's electricity reforms package will deliver a better deal for consumers, Energy Minister Max Bradford said today when announcing the package.
"An efficient electricity system is vital for a competitive, growing economy," Mr Bradford said. "Today's package establishes a framework that will deliver benefits to consumers, the economy and the environment over the next 20 years."
The changes set out in the package are expected to result in:
More competitive prices for consumers;
Choice of electricity suppliers for smaller consumers;
Reduced operating costs;
Better timed investment in new generation; and
Less harm to the environment.
The reform package includes:
the split of ECNZ into three SOEs;
guard against privatisation;
electricity supply companies to be divided into separate line and energy businesses.
