Changes to Housing New Zealand Corporation Board

Housing Minister Chris Carter today announced several appointments to the Board of Housing New Zealand Corporation.

Garry Wilson, Sandra Lee, and Colin Dale have been appointed as new board members, while existing member Lope Ginnen has been reappointed.

"Mr Wilson, Ms Lee, and Mr Dale have a great deal to offer Housing New Zealand," said Mr Carter. "Together they bring excellent and extensive governance experience, and will be well placed to assist the Corporation in meeting expectations.

"Ms Lee and Mr Dale have an in-depth knowledge of the Auckland environment, with its diverse challenges and opportunities. Mr Wilson’s experience at the helm of a large public sector agency will further strengthen the Board’s ability to assist in building capacity and capability within the Corporation.

"I also welcome Ms Ginnen to a further term on the Board. She has demonstrated her knowledge and skill in representing the Corporation on a number of issues.

"The HNZC Board will play a pivotal role in guiding the Corporation towards the government’s vision for housing over the long-term. I congratulate the four appointees and look forward to working with them," Mr Carter said.

Appointees

Garry Wilson has held a number of governance and senior executive positions in the public and private sectors, including 8 years as CEO of the Accident Compensation Corporation. He is a member of several boards including YMCA Wellington, Wellington Free Ambulance and the Wellington City Mission.

Sandra Lee has recently completed a diplomatic posting to Niue as High Commissioner. She was an MP for nine years, serving as Minister of Conservation, Local Government, and Associate Minister of Maori Affairs.

Colin Dale joined Manukau City in 1964 from a community health background. He was Manukau City's manager and chaired the Auckland Region Chief Executives’ Forum.

Ms Penelope (Lope) Ginnen is a barrister experienced in family and community-based law. She brings to the board a strong understanding of Pacific Peoples’ cultural issues as well as community, social and health issues.

The Housing New Zealand Corporation board now comprises: Pat Snedden, chair; Lope Ginnen; Tony Paine; Paul White; Greg Hinton; Garry Wilson; Sandra Lee and Colin Dale.
