Appointments to Te Papa board announced

Lawyer Paul Majurey and arts patron Dayle Mace have been appointed to the board of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, and current members Philip Carter and Wendy Lai have been reappointed, Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Christopher Finlayson announced today.

“The appointments of Paul Majurey and Dayle Mace and the reappointments of Philip Carter and Wendy Lai help ensure the Te Papa board has an appropriate and complementary mix of experience and skills,” Mr Finlayson said.

Paul Majurey is a partner in law firm Atkins Holm Majurey. His specialist appointments include the Minister for the Environment’s 2009 Technical Advisory Group and the Attorney-General’s 2009 Ministerial Review of the Waikato River Treaty settlement.

Dayle Mace’s governance experience spans more than two decades. She is the joint Head of Patrons for New Zealand at the Venice Biennale and Chair of Patrons for the Auckland Art Gallery and the Auckland Theatre Company. She is a trustee of the Auckland Art Fair.

Philip Carter is Managing Director of the Carter group of companies and a Director of the Christchurch International Airport. He is trustee of the Philip Carter Trust, which makes major financial contributions to arts infrastructure and programme funding. He has been a member of the Te Papa Board since 2010.

Wendy Lai is a partner with Deloitte (NZ) and leads their Strategy and Operations Consulting Practice. As a management consultant she has diverse private sector and public sector clients. She has been a member of the Te Papa Board since 2010.

Te Papa was established under the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa Act 1992. Its purpose is to provide a forum in which to present, explore, and preserve the heritage of New Zealand’s cultures and knowledge of the natural environment to better understand and treasure the past, to enrich the present and to meet challenges of the future.
