Appointment of Judge of the High Court

The Attorney-General Paul East announced today the appointment of William Gillow Gibbes Austen Young QC as a Judge of the High Court.

Justice Young was educated at Christ's College and graduated from the University of Canterbury with an LLB Honours in 1974. He graduated from Cambridge University with a PhD in 1978.

He was admitted to the bar in 1975 and in 1978 joined the Christchurch firm of R A Young Hunter and Co.

He went into practice as a barrister on his own account in 1988 and was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1991.

The new Judge will sit in Christchurch.
