Alistair Garland appointed to the District Court

Attorney-General Margaret Wilson has announced the appointment of Alistair Garland of Invercargill as a District Court Judge. Mr Garland has been appointed to a new position. He will sit in Palmerston North.

Since 1980 Mr Garland has been a partner in the firm now known as Preston Russell Law. He was formerly a partner in its predecessor firm, Preston Evans Noble & Early. Until 1987, when he was appointed Crown Solicitor, he was engaged in civil and criminal litigation and family law, particularly matrimonial property work. He was Chairman of the Executive Committee and of the partnership from 1997 until 2002. Mr Garland will be sworn in next month.
