Johns appointed to District Court

Attorney-General Michael Cullen today announced the appointment of Auckland Barrister Anna Johns as a District Court Judge. Ms Johns will be sworn in on 12 July and will sit in Manukau.

Ms Johns has practised as a barrister sole in Auckland since 1998, predominantly engaged in trial work, as both prosecuting and defence counsel. She has had experience as a member of the Prosecuting Panel for the Auckland District Law Society, a duty solicitor supervisor, a Youth Advocate and a member of the Refugee Status Appeal Authority. Ms Johns had earlier worked for Meredith Connell as a senior trial prosecutor and for the Serious Fraud Office.

Ms Johns worked in South Auckland in the early years of her legal career. From 1985 to 1992 she was employed by Field & Co in Otahuhu, primarily involved in criminal and family litigation.
