Our Plan superimposed on image of New Zealand coastline

Introduction

We’re lucky to call the most beautiful country in the world, home. I wouldn’t want to raise my child anywhere else.

This is a wonderful country, full of amazing people who work hard and achieve great things. I’m backing us to be even better, so this Government is working to unlock New Zealand’s – and every New Zealander’s - full potential.

That’s why I’m proud of our Coalition Government’s long-term plan. It’s a blueprint which sets out our priorities and the steps we are taking to build a more modern and fairer New Zealand that we can all be proud of.

At its core, this Government believes in showing leadership through kindness. We believe our people come first, that our environment is worth protecting, and that we need to make the right decisions now to ensure a better future for our children.

Our plan builds on the significant and important changes we have already made over the last year.

We’re rebuilding the hospitals, schools and public services that all New Zealanders rely on, and that have been run down for nearly a decade.

We’re delivering on our promises to improve housing, lift living standards, protect our precious environment and upgrade critical transport and other infrastructure.

We’re investing in education and training so all our young people have the options they deserve and so workers can adapt to future challenges and opportunities.

And we’re doing this through responsible management of the Government’s books – running surpluses, paying off debt, and making the sound investments we need for the future.

Importantly, this is a long-term plan. We’re looking out 30 years ahead, not just three, bringing fresh energy and thinking to tackle big challenges, like climate change and child poverty. With us, problems won’t be put in the ‘too hard’ basket.

We’re showing the world what good leadership looks like, giving New Zealanders even more reason to be proud of our country.

It’s the right thing to do as we strive towards a better New Zealand for this generation and the next.
