National War Memorial Advisory Board members appointed
Lt General (Rtd) Don McIver has been appointed to the National War Memorial Advisory Council after being elected as President of the Royal New Zealand Returned and Services’ Association, and the immediate past President, Air Vice Marshal ( Rtd) Robin Klitscher has been re-appointed to the Council, Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Christopher Finlayson announced today.
Mr McIver, a former Director of the Security Intelligence Service, joined the army as a cadet in 1952 before officer training at Duntroon. In the following thirteen years he saw active service in Malaya, Borneo and Vietnam. He rose to become the Chief of General Staff in the NZ Army retiring from the army as a Lieutenant General. After eight years heading the SIS he served for two years with the United Nations Commission in New York.
“I am pleased to announce the addition of Mr McIver's skills to the council,” Mr Finlayson said. “I would also like to thank departing member Denny Morris for his nine years with the council including his work on the establishment of the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in 2004.”
