Appointment to the Commerce Commission

Commerce Minister Simon Power today announced the appointment of Pat Duignan as a full member of the Commerce Commission. 


Mr Duignan's appointment is effective from 1 June 2010 to 9 June 2014.


He has been an associate member since June last year.


"Mr Duignan has been significantly involved in progressing the commission's work programme under Part 4 of the Commerce Act, and I am pleased he is now a full member and can participate in all matters before the commission," Mr Power said.


Mr Duignan replaces Peter Taylor whose term ended on 31 January 2010. 


Mr Power also thanked Mr Taylor for his work over nine years.


Background


Patrick (Pat) Duignan is principal and director at Munro Duignan Ltd. His previous roles include General Manager Finance for Telecom Corporation, Director in the Investment Banking Division of CS First Boston NZ Ltd, Treasurer of the New Zealand Debt Management Office, and Director Policy Co-ordination and Development at Treasury. He is an expert (i.e. non-board) member of the ACC Investment Committee.


The Commerce Commission is currently composed of Dr Mark Berry (Chairperson), members Sue Begg, Donal Curtin, Pat Duignan, Anita Mazzoleni, and Ross Patterson (also Telecommunications Commissioner), and associate members David Caygill and Gowan Pickering.
