Hon Rachel Brooking
Rachel Brooking is the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries. She is an environmental and local government expert, company director, working mum, and lover of NZ fashion. Rachel has 20 years experience as a resource management and local government lawyer. She understands business, the community, the environment, and good governance. In private practice, Rachel Brooking's clients included tourism, business, councils, iwi, university, and infrastructure projects. Her work for the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment gave her a grounding in policy.
Rachel is married to cancer specialist and campaigner Dr Chris Jackson, and they have 3 school-aged children. She is standing for Labour because she shares Labour’s values and vision of enabling people to live their best life through great public education, healthcare, welfare, incomes, housing, justice, and environment. She is committed to planning for climate change with both adaptation and mitigation, doing business better, reducing inequality, and embracing Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
