Help
What is an RSS feed?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) enables you to subscribe to website content. With an RSS feed, you can be told as soon as new content is published. More info: www.newsgator.com/RssLearningCenter
How do I subscribe to an RSS feed?
You will need to use a personalised homepage or newsreader software – for info on both, see below and/or download the document attached at the bottom of this page (includes more useful links). To subscribe, click on the RSS icon (the little orange square with the stripes in it) to go to the page for the selected feed. Consult your newsreader's or browser's Help to learn how to add feeds. Depending on how your RSS reader is set up, this may:
- Automatically subscribe you to the feed. Or
- You may have to copy the URL of the feed's page into your reader application. Or
- drag and drop the RSS icon to your subscription list
What is a personalised homepage?
A personalised homepage allows you to easily collect and organise information from multiple feeds on a single web page. When a headline or summary appears on your homepage, you can click on the title to be taken to the source at the Beehive site. Examples: www.igoogle.com or www.my.yahoo.com. Many other major web portals provide personalised homepages.
What is a newsreader?
A newsreader is an application that aggregates, sorts and displays multiple RSS feeds. A newsreader is a good choice if you plan on subscribing to a large number of feeds. A wide range of newsreaders are available. Examples: NewsGator Online www.newsgator.com, WizzRSS www.wizzrss.com, or any number of alternatives.
